Fourth Grade and Fifth Grade Class Trips

As both our fourth and fifth grade classes will be graduating this year from Robinson due to the school restructuring, our P.T.A. is working very hard to ensure that both classes receive funding for a class trip.  It has been a long-standing tradition that the graduating class gets to go on a trip (usually to Chicago) at the end of the school year as a group.  As this is the last year for students currently in fourth and fifth grades to be at Robinson, we feel it is important that they all get to enjoy this tradition.

The classroom teachers get the opportunity to pick the destination for the grades.  We are currently working with them to make sure that funding is available for this.  This will be one of the topics that will be discussed at our meeting in January.  We are also working on providing both grades with class T-shirts which is also a tradition at our school.

We are still working hard on our playground project.  However, we are waiting to move ahead until the cost of the class trips is determined as this directly impacts our budget for this project.

Candy Bar Sales

We are off to a great year with our fundraisers thanks to our wonderful students and their families!  Our candy bar fundraiser kicks off on February 2nd.  This was a GREAT fundraiser for our school last year and we raised over $4000 from just this fundraiser!  Students will be able to sell candy bars for $1.00 each and 50% of the profits stay right at Robinson School!  The candy bars are provided in a case that contains 50 bars - 15 chocolate almond bars, 10 caramel bars, 10 crispy bars, 10 milk chocolate bars, and 5 dark chocolate bars. Order forms went home last week and they are due by January 25th so that we can order the bars.

Cases can be picked up by parents on February 1st from 4-5 pm in the front conference room or they can be sent home with kids (we recommend picking them up so that they make it home safely and uneaten!).

All candy bars are provided by the case only.  Your child can get another case of candy bars after the money for the first case has been turned in.  The sale ends February 20th and all money and/or unopened candy bars must be turned in by that date.  Parents are responsible for making sure that there is a dollar for each bar sold, or that all unopened bars are returned.  Last year, many of our families had great success selling these at work!

For each candy bar sold, your student will have their name entered into drawings for great prizes including gifts cards to child-friendly businesses, Roadrunner blankets, sleds, and much more! If you have more than one child at Robinson, please make sure to write both/all of their names on the order form so that we can split the entry slips for the evenly between/amongst them for the drawings.

If you have any questions or need more forms, please email Mandy Barlow at mandyb49417@yahoo.com or call her at 842-3248.

Welcome to the Robinson Elementary School P.T.A!  We welcome all of our parents, guardians, and caregivers to attend our monthly meetings!  Our next meeting will be Thursday, January 26th, 2011 at 7 P.M. in the school library.

How do we spend our fundraising money?

The majority of the money from our fundraisers goes towards activities/events that benefit all of our children.  Many of our grades have already taken their first field trips of the year.  The average cost of busing for a field trip ranges from $150 to $300.  Our P.T.A. covers all of this cost so that all of our children can have educational experiences outside the classroom.

Our P.T.A. also helps support the Accelerated Reading Program, Backpack Books, the Young Authors' Program, Step into My Shoes, the Safety Patrol, the Fifth Grade Class Trip, and we help support the Media Center.  We thank our families for their continued help with fundraisers so that all of our children can benefit from these programs and activities.

A portion of the proceeds from the fundraisers this year will be going towards purchasing equipment for our playground.  The new playground equipment will be going on the "big kid" side of the playground north of the monkey bars.  Many of the structures on this side need to be removed soon as they are deteriorating.  We are hoping to hit our goal by the end of the school year.

Box Top Contest
We are currently having another Box Top contest which ends February 22nd.  The winning classroom will receive an ice cream party from the P.T.A.  We are also collecting Campbell's soup labels, Spartan labels, and Tyson labels!
